Huntington University Students Give Back to Long-Term Care Residents

Students from the Huntington University Gerontology Society (HUGS) have collected more than 75 gifts for long-term care residents in Greater Sudbury.  The packages, donated as part of Huntington University’s 2nd annual Christmas Giving Tree campaign, will be presented to long-term care residents at Finlandia Village, Pioneer Manor and Extendicare-York, on Christmas Day.

“I commend the students from HUGS for their initiative and commitment to growing the scope of this student-led community project,” said Dr. Kevin McCormick, President & Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University.  “This campaign is a prime example of how lessons move beyond the classroom to have a greater impact in the community at large.”

“In 2015 we collected 50 gifts and this year we decided to build on that success and expand the initiative to include a third long-term care home in Sudbury,” said Laura Palmer, HUGS President.  “I’d like to thank our campus community and the local Greater Sudbury residents who supported this campaign and helped to ensure every older adult on our list receives a gift this holiday season.”
