Dr. McCormick Receives Community Builders Award for Excellence in Education

Huntington University would like to congratulate its President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kevin McCormick, on being the 2014 recipient of the Community Builders’ Award of Excellence in Education.

A champion for education, Dr. McCormick is actively involved in the community of Sudbury, as well as in provincial, national and international initiatives, and he has also been published extensively in the areas of social justice and higher education pedagogy/leadership.

Throughout his time as President and Vice-Chancellor at Huntington University, Dr. McCormick has offered continual support to students, staff and faculty, always encouraging their academic growth and providing help wherever he can. In 2011, Dr. McCormick was a vital piece in establishing the Lougheed Teaching and Learning Center of Excellence. This centre joins students, educators and the public together with the goal of promoting excellence and innovation in higher learning and professional development through integrated communications and annual academic conferences.

Working independently and voluntarily, Dr. McCormick spends much of his personal time creating awareness for displaced teachers and learners across the globe. Through his own educational awareness campaigns, Dr. McCormick travels to areas such as India, Thailand, Myanmar-Burma, Vietnam among other locations.

Having been recently privileged with the title of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel for the Irish Regiment of Canada, 2nd Battalion, Dr. McCormick has begun an 18 month mission titled, Project Honour and Preserve.  Through this initiative, Dr. McCormick has been making hundreds of donations of various military items, such as the memorial cross, victory medal and meritorious service decorations as well as hundreds of personal effects from fallen soldiers, which he has personally purchased, to families, universities and military museums all over Canada.

A true leader in every sense of the word, Huntington University is proud to call Dr. McCormick our President and Vice-Chancellor.
