COVID-19: Update -April 2021


Huntington University continues to work, under the guidance of public health authorities, to ensure our COVID-19 preparedness and protocols are aligned with their recommendations.

If you think you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has it, use the Ministry of Health self-assessment to help determine if you need to seek further care.


The COVID Alert app, Canada’s free exposure notification app available for iOS and Android, is another tool you can use to help limit the spread of the virus.  For more information visit the Government of Canada website.

All members of the Huntington University community, including faculty, staff, students and residents, are strongly advised to adhere to the Government of Canada Global Travel Advisory, which currently states:



Additional requirements, such as mandatory COVID-19 testing, will also be required for all air passengers, starting at 11:59 p.m. (EST) on January 26, 2021.

Huntington University continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation, with Laurentian University, and under the guidance of Public Health Sudbury & Districts, and consider the health and wellbeing of our employees and students of utmost importance.  As such, and in light of the Government of Canada Global Travel Advisory Huntington University is taking the following actions:


  • international and domestic travel for business purposes is suspended until further notice 
  • We are highly recommending that our community follow federal travel advisories for personal travel. We highlight that provinces are increasingly requiring self-isolation for returning international travelers.

April 8, 2021

 

On April 7, 2021 Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared a third provincial emergency under s 7.0.1 (1) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA).  Full details can be found on the Province of Ontario website

 

Effective Thursday, April 8, 2021at 12:01 a.m., the government is issuing a stay-at-home order, to be in effect for at least four weeks.  The stay-at-home order aims to reduce people’s mobility and daily contacts outside an immediate household, to help stop the spread of Covid-19 in communities across the province. 

 

The stay-at-home order will require every person to stay at home, unless for essential purposes or activities which may include medical appointments (including getting vaccinated), groceries, picking up medication, for outdoor exercise, or for work that is essential and cannot be performed remotely.  Additional safety measures have been implemented with respect to non-essential retail.  Full details can be found on the Province of Ontario website

 

As a result of these provincial directives, please note the following as it applies to Huntington University and our Huntington community:

 

  • We remain open online and digitally, however our facilities our currently closed to the public.

 

  • The Huntington University team is ready to serve and support you through various means, including by phone and email. During the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact us by phone at 705-673-4126 ext. 211 or by email to ccatt@huntingtonu.ca.  We are committed to returning your call as soon as possible. 

 

  • Huntington University staff and faculty are to continue to work remotely, if possible, unless explicitly told otherwise by the President and Vice-Chancellor. 

 

  • The Huntington University building, as with all buildings at Laurentian University, University of Sudbury and Thorneloe University, remain closed with only limited access to employees deemed as required for current core operations.

 

  • The general public is not permitted on campus, at this time.

 

  • Students in the Huntington University residence continue to be one of our main priorities.  We are committed to their safety and wellbeing, and will be communicating further information to them directly.
