Huntington University Students Giving Back To Long-Term Care Residents

The Huntington University Gerontology Society (HUGS) is spearheading a campaign to benefit local older adults this holiday season.

From November 16th through to December 4th, as part of the Christmas Giving Tree campaign for older adults, the HUGS student association will accept gifts, which will be donated to the long-term care residents at Finlandia Village and Pioneer Manor prior to Christmas.

“Civic leadership and community engagement are values that our institution holds in very high regard,” said Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University. “I am extremely pleased that our students are getting involved in a campaign like this and helping to raise awareness about the fact that many older adults are at risk of social isolation, especially during times of celebration, such as Christmas.”

“As a graduate of the Gerontology program at Huntington University, it is important to me to be able to give back to the community and to have an impact on the lives of older adults in Greater Sudbury,” stated Laura Palmer, HUGS President. “I invite the entire student body, along with members of our community at large, to actively engage in our Christmas Giving Tree campaign for long-term care residents and to help us ensure this holiday season is a happy one for our aged population.”

It’s easy to participate:

• Take a tag off the Christmas tree located near room 117 at Huntington University.
• Purchase the requested gift.
• Wrap the gift and attach a card.
• Drop off the wrapped gift, with the tree tag, by December 4t to Huntington University’s reception office (room 101). The reception office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Members of the public wishing to participate in this initiative can contact Laura Palmer at (705) 665-3543.
