HURSC Helping Homeless Women Through Sudbury Shoebox Project

December 1st, 2017

In December, the Huntington University Residence Student Council (HURSC) made a donation of care packages to the Sudbury Shoebox Project – an initiative that provides Shoeboxes, filled with useful items, to support  women in need.

“On behalf of the students living in Huntington University’s residence, we are proud to donate shoeboxes, packed with useful items such as transit passes, warm mitts, hand lotions, cosmetics, chocolates and more,” said Austin Lemieux, HURSC President. “As a council we were asked to promote this cause and the residence came together.  We jumped at the opportunity to support the Sudbury Shoebox Project, which collects shoeboxes for shelters and distributes them to women who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, in our community.

“Over the festive season the HURSC and the students living in our residence have been working hard to support many local groups. We’ve collected food for the Edgar Burton Food Drive, have donated 50 hours to support fundraising initiatives for the Human League Association of Sudbury’s Breakfast Program for Kids, and have reached our goal of filling 13 shoeboxes for the shoebox campaign ,” said Colleen Brown, HURSC Vice-President. “It fills me with great pride to see that we are giving back, making a local impact, and also contributing to Huntington University’s culture of civic leadership and community service.”
