Scholarships 2017-2018

HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
Value:  $1,500:  Awarded to a student graduating from a Huntington program with a cumulative average of 90% or more as selected by the Registrar.

HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP
Value:  $1,000: Awarded to a student graduating from a Huntington program with a cumulative average of between 85-90% as selected by the Registrar.

THE HONOURABLE FRANCIS WILLIAM MAHOVLICH C.M. SCHOLARSHIP  – Application Required
Value:  $750. Awarded to a Huntington student or resident with a minimum 75% GPA and who has an immediate family member that is serving, or has served, in the Canadian military.   Please submit a cover letter indicating your relationship to the family member and where/when they served.

THE REVEREND DR. EARL AND ELIZABETH LAUTENSLAGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, ST. ANDREW’S UNITED CHURCHApplication Required
Value:  $750. Awarded to a Huntington student or resident of high academic achievement. Other factors such as volunteerism within the Huntington or Sudbury community and financial need will be considered (minimum 80% GPA).

THE HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY AWARD OF EXCELLENCE Application Required
Value:  $500. Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a Huntington program with the highest overall average at the end of their first year.

THE HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY AWARD OF EXCELLENCEApplication Required
Value:$500. Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a Huntington program with the highest overall average at the end of their second year.

THE HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY AWARD OF EXCELLENCEApplication Required
Value:  $500. Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a Huntington program with the highest overall average at the end of their third year.

THE DR. EDWARD J. CONROY SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a first year student from the City of Greater Sudbury who is enrolled in a Huntington program and has attained a min. 80% average in Grade 12.

THE DR. AVINASH GARG SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500.  Awarded to a mature female student in a Huntington program (minimum 80% average) as selected by the Registrar.

THE DR. GEOFFREY LOUGHEED SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$500. Awarded to a student in a Huntington program or living in Huntington residence for outstanding contributions to community service (minimum 75% GPA).

THE DR. FRANCA DAMIANI CARELLA SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a Huntington University student or resident who has made exemplary contributions in the area of social justice (minimum 75% GPA).

THE DR. RICK BARTOLUCCI SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a Huntington student or resident who has demonstrated outstanding community service and volunteer work within the community of Greater Sudbury (minimum 75% GPA).

THE DR. DAVID TSUBOUCHI SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$500. Awarded to a Huntington student or resident who has shown leadership and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the community (minimum 75% GPA).

THE DR. RAYUDU KOKA SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a student in a Huntington program who has made outstanding contributions and leadership in the area of mental health based initiatives (minimum 75% GPA).

Scholarships 2017-2018 – Communication Studies

THE MARGARET KINGSBURG SMITH PRIZE IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Value: $1,000. Awarded to a third or fourth year student in the Communication Studies program who has achieved high academic standing while making a significant contribution to the program as selected by the Communication Studies Department.

THE DR. ABBAS HOMAYED SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $750. Awarded to the student with the highest average in the Communication Studies Thesis course during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE WILLIAM KEDEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest overall average in COST 1116, Introduction to Mass Media during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE DR. JEANNE WARWICK CONROY SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a student in the 3rd of 4th year of the Communication Studies program who has achieved academic excellence and made outstanding contributions to community service (minimum 80% GPA).

THE DR. JOHN R. BAIRD SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$500. Awarded to a first year student enrolled in the Communication Studies program at Huntington University who finished Grade 12 with a minimum 80% and has demonstrated outstanding community service.

HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a student in the Communication Studies program who demonstrates a positive attitude and motivates others around them to do their best as selected by the Department.

THE MARK GENTILI SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest final mark in COST 2526, News Culture during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE GREATER SUDBURY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value: $500. Awarded to a full-time Huntington University student who is enrolled in their 2nd or 3rd year of the Communication Studies program and who has demonstrated community leadership. The student must have a minimum 75% overall average and be a resident of Greater Sudbury.

Scholarships 2017-2018 – Gerontology

THE MARGARET KINGSBURG SMITH PRIZE IN GERONTOLOGY
Value: $1,000. Awarded to a third or fourth year student in the Gerontology program who has achieved high academic standing while making a significant contribution to the program as selected by the Gerontology Department.

CARP AwardApplication Required
Value:$800. Awarded to a full-time student who is enrolled in the Huntington University Gerontology program and has attained a minimum 80% GPA. The recipient of this award will demonstrate leadership and support of programs that promote financial security and/or improved health care and wellness for aged populations.

THE GERONTOLOGY THESIS PRIZE
Value: $750. Awarded to the student with the highest average in the Gerontology Thesis course during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE DR. J.W. ED NEWBERRY SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest final mark in GERO 1016 during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE DONALD &ANITA THOMPSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a HUGS student as selected by the Gerontology department (minimum 80% GPA).

THE MARY ELIZABETH WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a fourth year Gerontology or Religious Studies student who has made a significant contribution to the program with a minimum 80% GPA. This award will be selected by the Huntington Registrar.

THE DR. GERRY LOUGHEED, JR. SCHOLARSHIP
Value:  $500. Awarded to a student with the highest final grade in GERO 2226, End-of-Life-Care for Older Adults during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE DR. JAMES M. YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a student in GERO 3016, Critical Skills for the Gerontologist, who has attained the highest overall average during the 2017-2018 academic year.

HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Value:$500. Awarded to a student in the Gerontology program who demonstrates a positive attitude and motivates others around them to do their best as selected by the Department.

Scholarships 2017-2018 – Religious Studies

THE MARGARET KINGSBURG SMITH PRIZE IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES
Value: $1,000. Awarded to a third or fourth year student in the Religious Studies program who has achieved high academic standing while making a significant contribution to the program as selected by the Religious Studies Department.

THE MARY ELIZABETH WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a fourth year Gerontology or Religious Studies student who has made a significant contribution to the program with a minimum 80% GPA. This award will be selected by the Huntington Registrar.

HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Value:$500. Awarded to a student in the Religious Studies program who demonstrates a positive attitude and motivates others around them to do their best as selected by the Department.

R.J. ASKIN MEMORIAL PRIZE
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest mark in the final exam in PHIL 2536, Ethical Issues in Contemporary Sport during 2017-2018 academic year.

THE GEORGE HARTMAN MEMORIAL PRIZE
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest overall average in RLST 1106, Religion for a New Generation, during the 2017-2018 academic year.

THE E.T. LUTE MEMORIAL PRIZE IN PHILOSOPHY
Value: $500. Awarded to the student with the highest final mark in PHIL 2536, Ethical Issues in Contemporary Sport during the 2017-2018 academic year.

MABEL AND ALFRED DEW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $250. Awarded to a deserving student in the Religious Studies program as selected by Prof. A. Hood.

Scholarships 2017-2018 – Residents

THE DOROTHY T. MILLER SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$1,000. Awarded to Huntington resident who is in their third or fourth year and has the highest GPA (minimum 80%).

THE RUTH E. FOLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$500.Awarded to a first year female Huntington resident with the highest overall standing in Grade 12.

THE ROBERT REAMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500.  Awarded to a third year male Huntington resident who best exemplifies academic excellence and leadership qualities in student life.

THE LADOUCEUR-THRASHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a female Huntington resident who has contributed most to student life at Huntington while maintaining good academic standing during her second year in Huntington residence.

THE DR. LUDO J. WINCKEL SCHOLARSHIP
Value: $500. Awarded to a female student in her fourth year of residence who has made outstanding contributions to the life and spirit of Huntington Residence while maintaining good academic achievement.

THE DR. LUDO J. WINCKEL SCHOLARSHIP
Value:  $500. Awarded to a male student in his fourth year of residence who has made outstanding contributions to the life and spirit of Huntington Residence while maintaining good academic achievement.

THE KATE RIDDLE MEMORIAL AWARD
Value: $500. Awarded to a Huntington resident in their upper year of study who has made a significant contribution to the social life and support in residence.

THE RENEE M. SWEENEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPApplication Required
Value:$500. Awarded to a Huntington resident who is enrolled in the Music or History program and has a minimum 75% GPA.
