Call for Nominations – CFI Commemorative Academic Award
Event Date: Dec 6 2017
2017 is an extra special year for Finnish Canadians. With the advent of Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation and 100 years of Finnish Independence, this is a year that celebrates milestone anniversaries for both countries. 2017 also marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between our two nations.
Accordingly, there has never been a better time to salute the rich Finnish history in our region. Greater Sudbury is home to a thriving Finnish community, whose contributions on multiple levels, from culture to education to politics, have helped weave the colourful fabric of our society.
To mark the historic intersection of our two nations, Huntington University and the Canadian Finnish Institute (CFI) invite nominations for the CFI Commemorative Academic Award. Up to two awards are available, each valued at $1,500, which will be presented one-time only in 2017 in commemoration of the dual anniversaries.
“Huntington University and the Canadian Finnish Institute are proud to support Finnish Canadian students who are making rich contributions in support of Canada-Finnish relations, through their field of study, volunteer efforts, or personal accomplishments,” said Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University and CFI Chair.
To nominate a deserving Finnish Canadian student, who is enrolled full-time at an accredited post-secondary institution for the 2017-2018 academic year, please submit a letter of nomination that outlines the reasons for the nomination and provides background information about the nominee’s achievements and accomplishments, contributions and/or community service and how their accomplishments are resulting in a positive impact on Canada-Finnish relations. Self-nominations will also be accepted.
Please direct nominations to [email protected]. Nomination deadline is December 6, 2017.
